[Amazon tv] Reacher

Deserves its own thread.

Dont have Prime but keeping up by way of YouTube videos and clips. Shitty way to do it but I get the good parts. Looks like a great show and one that finally does Reacher right. I posted in the main Amazon thread about the guy who plays him as Thad from Blue Mountain State. He is huge and can be damn funny. But he fits as Jack Reacher.

Heres another video.

Season 2 is up. At least the first few episodes. I love me some Reacher.

P.S. first episode of season 2 has a great Terminator joke scene.

Ooh, now I am back to having to choose what to watch. This is a good thing.

I think I'll sit and watch from the beginning...that way I can alternate shows..one nite Strange New Worlds next night Reacher. Both have a full season behind them now and are in their 2nd. So I can go slow and enjoy them for a while. I have Amazon Prime for $6 and get Reacher with that and have Paramount+ free with my Walmart+ sub for food deliveries at $6 a month and get Strange New Worlds with that. So I'm good to go.

A personal aside: Reacher season 1 was probably the best representation of a high-functioning autistic person I've seen on TV. It wasn't explicitly stated that Reacher's autistic, but they absolutely nailed it. And, honestly, it's nice to see a character like that who shows it as a strength rather than simply having it be that character's entire personality and purpose.

I thought that as I saw ep one..that he is autistic.

This show is fun, and the main character is a hoot to watch, but good lord it’s in need of someone to punch up the scripts. The whole password scene from the first episode of this season is a prime example of just how ridiculous it can get. I rolled my eyes so hard I saw the back of my neck over that one.

After watching the 4th episode of the 2nd season is anyone else feeling like the fight scenes are getting a bit fantastical now? These people are ex-soldiers/investigators not superheroes.

I played them all yesterday, but have to watch it again when I can pay attention (was multitasking baking and wrapping presents). The book the season is based on is a good one though (not that any are really bad).

Finished it tonight. Is it just me, or was it just cruel for the sake of being cruel at times?
Spoiler:
Shooting the missile at the departing helicopter full of two guys who, while not innocent, still had nothing to do with their friends’ deaths was just too much. Especially after telling them they were letting them go. I don’t know if it happens that way in the books, but if it does, that’s too bad. Reacher shouldn’t be bloodthirsty, for Christ’s sake. He comes across as a sociopath at times this season. Well, much more than season one anyway.
Overall it was okay, but I don’t think it’s nearly as good as the first season.

Yup. Part of me thinks they made a conscious decision to play to the we want vengeance crowd.

Especially in the book they chose instead of going with book 2. Yeah the one where he infiltrates a right wing militia. They didn't dare touch that with a ten foot pole, and instead went with a story to satisfy those folks rather than have them as the (gullible) villains...

Lot more action in the second season but just wasn't as much fun.
I think I like Nealy more than Reacher himself.

Hey, I'm just the Engineer who created the false test results in order to sell the chips to terrorists. I didn't shoot the missiles.

I explicitly stated they weren't innocent.
Spoiler:
But I just didn't understand the need to tell the guys they were free, load up a missile, shoot them down and then laugh about it. They weren't the Big Bad of the season. They weren't a threat. They were in their custody. Just shoot them in the head or let Homeland Security take them in (like they did with the military guys Lavoy sent....or Lavoy himself) instead of gleefully blowing them up with a missile.
Pyperkub's point that it was done to pander to the people who want vengeance porn is most likely the answer. Although even that was poorly done considering we only met them 12 minutes before the episode ended.

The final with the big bad wasn't very creative either.
Spoiler:
They could have at least had him dangling from the chopper and reach to Reacher for help, only to have Reacher slap his hand away.

I thought that scene was very effective. Mostly because Robert Patrick really turned it up a notch at that moment.

Torture porn
Revenge porn
Action porn
And random sex scenes with Reacher and Dixon.
This season has it all!

Season 2 absurdities:
Spoiler:
  • The government letting them walk away with $65M. Sure, no problem. And don't worry about the taxes or having to explain where it came from when you hand it out.
  • Reacher getting stabbed in the arm and then holding Dixon's bed suspended outside the helicopter with that arm.
  • O'Donnell getting shot in the stomach, having the bullet cut out, and then he seems to be a-ok afterwards with no visit to the hospital.
  • A.M. killing the dentist for his face.
  • Reacher standing in the middle of the parking lot with no cover being shot at with a machine gun from the helicopter and not getting hit once.
  • Every bad guy answering their phone with "so is he dead?" or "did you finish your evil task?".
  • I thought Neagley was rich. Wasn't she funding Reacher this whole season? If so, why was her dad living in poverty needing money for medical care at the end?

We can agree on that. It just wasn't a very good season to me. The only thing that saves the show is Alan Ritchson being so damn good in the role.

Well...I also liked Domenick Lombardozzi. But I like him in almost anything. He was in the Wire. He earned a lifetime pass.

I don't remember if that book (Bad Luck and Trouble - book 11) was so revenge-porn oriented (honestly, tho I read all of the Lee Child Reacher books before he delegated the franchise to his brother, I don't remember that book AT ALL - especially as to my recollection, all the "kill them first, ask questions later" segments were generally out of character for the character, as I recall - for the most part). Also, I really wanted to see them actually take on the militia group (+ other) villains from book 2, rather than see them punt in favor of revenge porn.

Probably it’s due to having a generous expense account so she can write off a whole bunch of things used in the commission of mayhem as “work related”.

Or Dixon having her breasts falling out of her shirt until a fight scene and then they are tucked in. Yeah I was captivated. The police detective was the best character. The 2nd season was poor revenge porn. Ritchson needs to stop bulking up. He is starting to move like a robot or a gym rat douche.

In the books, Reacher is rather complicated and not always likeable.

Reacher is also not poor. He has some sort of military pension/settlement that regularly deposits $$$ in his bank account, and IIRC he's had some windfalls deposited to his account from his various adventures. Every time he KOs a goon, he loots them like any good fantasy character would.

I do remember quite well the book this season was based on. While not my favorite, it was good "background story filler" novel that explained a lot of what Reacher did in the military.

Started watching this for real last night instead of reaction videos. Watched the first two eps as I pretty much knew them well from the clips vids Id seen. Still was a bit more to them . Really enjoying it as I knew I would. Just getting myself to sit still and watch something is my big barrier. The entire time I was watching I found myself thinking just how much my wife would have loved this show. This is spot on her type show. Crime, big cool guy, well written and suspenseful, and lots of fighting. She was a crime show addict. Makes a bit sad as I watch without her.

Ive still not seen the Tom Cruise movies. She had though. I figure Id rather watch the big guy version first as Tom totally does not fit the Reacher that was written about.

I've only read the first book, but the series captured the character much better than the films did.

And I still say that Reacher (at least S1 - I haven't seen 2) is the best on-screen representation of a high-functioning autistic person I've seen. And yes, I'm talking about Jack Reacher himself.

I watched a Screen Rant video about Alan Ritchson and Henry Cavill in The Ministry of Ungentelmanly Warfare and the comments section was endless rants about what a terrible person Alan is and how he should keep his mouth shut and I was like..."whaaaaaaat?"...until I got a little further in and noticed the comments were in regards to Alan spouting a bunch of "woke nonsense."

Apparently, Alan had some unkind words about Trump and MAGATs and now they are all butthurt about their hero who beats up bad guys is now a communist, space laser brainwashed libtard and how they'll never watch another episode of Reacher and Amazon has gone woke and will soon go broke.

I found it all a bit....delicious?

What I didn't like about season 2 was the subplot they had with Reacher taking ozempic to fit into his old swim team trunks for his high school reunion. That just felt odd.
