Wow, yeah I agree. Usually trailers just bounce off me, but that was bad. No trouble skipping this one.

I’m not sure why they felt the need to make him a hero. A villain story would be fun, I think.

Ah, Sony. No one told them superhero movies have been over for a while now. They're just James Bond at this point. Every now and again there's a good one.
What's with Russell Crowe having a supporting role in all of these mediocre attempted cinematic universe franchise movies? Man of Steel, The Mummy, this.... (I still like Man of Steel, shut up.)
I have no idea who Kraven is outside of a Marvel Snap card and news of this film, but I think the only thing that could get me excited about it were if Crowe had the starring role.

Regarding this movie, it's a weird choice - maybe. It's like they're sorta trying to build out the Spider-Man universe. Here's hoping for a Spider-Man / Morbius / Kraven ultra-mega blowout in 2027.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Re: [Sony/Marvel] Kraven the Hunter
I think Venom can carry his own movie. But yeah, eventually if they're trying to do some type of MCU giant movie connection, eventually they're going to meet.
EDIT: Then again, maybe Sony will just throw all caution to the wind and make another Spider-Man vs everybody movie.

I imagine that Crowe appreciates a fat paycheck as much as the next guy, and (potential) blockbusters must pay quite well without being particularly challenging roles. You're playing a comic book character, after all.Sudy wrote: Mon Jun 19, 2023 9:52 pm What's with Russell Crowe having a supporting role in all of these mediocre attempted cinematic universe franchise movies? My vague impression is that it is a villain origin story, but that he doesn't set out to be a villain ("My father puts evil in the world. I take it out."). Hence the tagline: Villains aren't born.hepcat wrote: Mon Jun 19, 2023 7:22 pm I’m not sure why they felt the need to make him a hero. A villain story would be fun, I think.

Re: [Sony/Marvel] Kraven the Hunter
One can only hope. It would be nice if Sony was doing a slate of true supervillain films, then inserting them as antagonists into their main superhero films....well....spiderman, as that's probably one of the only major ones they still own. It would certainly be a different approach than Marvel.

Bad trailer aside, it is refreshing to see a superhero film where the hero has a hand to hand style that wasn't learned at the Black Widow School of Fighting.

They gotta make a Squirrel Girl movie eventually, right? Maybe the next time a studio executive reaches into the "quirky superhero" bag of IP?

They did make an attempt at live action a few years ago, although I expect there'd have been some CGI touch-up on the final product:El Guapo wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 2:27 pmThey gotta make a Squirrel Girl movie eventually, right? Well, they are working on a Fantastic Four MCU movie (good luck with that one...), and they are connecting Deadpool to the MCU, plus they've introduced Taskmaster and Ulysses Klaw (they killed him, but comic books), so that does open up some possibilities for a Frightful Four appearance.hepcat wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 2:44 pm The next time that happens, that hand better damn well come out with a Triple P movie, damn it.
So it's not impossible that we'd see him.

Re: [Sony/Marvel] Kraven the Hunter
The problem for Sony is that they have a limited "universe" of Spider-Man characters that they have access to, and they keep trying to create a sustainable "Spidey Universe", but except for the Venom movies, no one is interested in anyone other than Spider-Man. Mobius, Madame Webb and now Kraven are all attempts to create this universe that no one really cares about. I don't know how much money they'll have to lose before someone at the top realizes this is a futile effort.
I am surprised that they haven't tried a Miles Morales or Gwen movie - those would have chances of being successful, I think. Get them in a movie with Tom Holland in his version of Spider-Man, and introduce them that way. Then if successful, they'd have a platform to spin them off in some way in their own movies.

Far too much of a niche, cult character. I mean the name, "Squirrel Girl" is just so cringy.El Guapo wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 2:27 pm They gotta make a Squirrel Girl movie eventually, right? Maybe the next time a studio executive reaches into the "quirky superhero" bag of IP?

Re: [Sony/Marvel] Kraven the Hunter
But "Ant Man" is okay?
Let's face it, they're all pretty cringy.
Except for Paste Pot Pete. It describes him perfectly, giving you an idea of what you're in for when you meet him. It also explains the pot he's carrying.

Because Kraven is terrible.
At least Squirrel Girl is campy fun.
