Not so much an F you as it is a 'Meh, whatever." Just like most of his promises that don't involve providing cover for those loyal to him that he deems worthy and by worthy I mean of worth to him.
The point though is apparently a large number of dopes who voted for him cited he would bring down the price of eggs. This is no surprise to educated voters, but it's hard to fathom how many previously undecided voters thought this was going to be a positive outcome for them.

The war in Russia was supposed to end weeks ago. Just a reminder.

It's pretty much what I expected he would do. But not only is he not lowering prices, by implementing tariffs, he's actually going to end up raising prices. Talk about a switcheroo.

To be fair, until he's actually the commander in chief he can't order the carpet bombing of Kiev that is the cornerstone of his peace plan.

What's insane is that there are *still* people complaining about all the "Biden taxes" and how they're not making any money because it's all going to the government. They seemingly don't understand we're all living under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was signed by (checks notes) Donald J. Trump. The plan was to reverse the changes made between 2018 and 2024 after the election in 2025 (when those cuts expired), but of course now TFG gets to extend and expand what he pushed for in 2017.

The CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency) has made a statement saying that Canada is not a significant source of fentanyl into the U.S. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more of it coming into Canada via the U.S rather than vice-versa.

The people who complain the most about taxes get refunds so they pay relatively little other than payroll, sales and property taxes.

The CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency) has made a statement saying that Canada is not a significant source of fentanyl into the U.S. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there were more of it coming into Canada via the U.S rather than vice-versa.
Alberta introduced plans to create a new unit in an attempt to bolster security at its section of Canada's border with the U.S.
Premier Danielle Smith announced on Thursday that the province will invest $29 million to create the Interdiction Patrol Team, under the command of the Alberta Sheriffs.
The unit will be made up of 51 uniformed officers, 10 support staff including dispatchers and analysts, four drug patrol dogs, 10 surveillance drones operable in cold weather and high winds, and four narcotics analyzers.
The IPT will be set up to intercept illegal attempts to cross the border, or bring drugs or firearms across the 298-kilometre international boundary with the U.S.
Smith added that Alberta will create a border zone at least two kilometres deep, where sheriffs will be able to arrest people found to be attempting to cross the border illegally or trafficking illegal drugs or weapons, without needing a warrant.
The province said the border zone will be created by amending regulations under Alberta's Critical Infrastructure Defence Act.
Possibly a key takeaway:
"Together with federal law enforcement, we'll ensure that our section of the American border is well-protected," Smith said. "We'll deny safe haven to criminals looking to operate in both countries, and if we succeed and maintain proper border security, I expect we'll have a very strong relationship with the United States as we always have."
I'm sure that 51 officers, 4 dogs and 10 drones (plus support staff) will be sufficient to appease Trump and keep him from levying any new tariffs on Alberta oil.

Performative. Plus it allows them to keep up the delusion that it's the rest of Canada that is the problem. The problem being whatever they feel like criticizing at the moment.

Either way, Alberta is going full-Texas to ensure their stretch of the border is Secure™.
Yeah, and it can't technically hurt to improve border protection in general. Particularly in the 3 key spots I mentioned above. And interestingly, I've watched a video of a ridelong someone did witth a sheriff doing border patrol that also does mention those key areas. Although I've heard one takeaway saying that theoretically, it's not Canada's problem, but the U.S and that Canada shouldn't have to do anything.

I'd wager that the flow of weapons from Canada to the US is about zero. This new task force is probably, in reality, indented to stop the flow of drugs and weapons from the US but they're paying lip-service to Trump's fever dreams.
Two birds with one stone: shore up defenses against the US criminal trade and slightly appease your dumb neighbors.

There's also the issue the provincial government usurping a function of the federal government, which is a classic right-wing Alberta move. It is performative, but also aspirational.

Yep, you nailed it. There's problably more guns and drugs flowing into Canada via the U.S than vice-versa, seeing as Canada is much more strict about guns. We don't even have a 'stand your ground policy', ffs.
What I can't stand is how Trump is currently acting towards Canada, as if we'd made some grievous error, and not even being professional about it. It's all in the tone and composure and it's frankly insulting to Canada as a Country and a longtime ally. Belittling and infantilzing is never the way to go, and I add Musk resorting to name calling by openly calling Trudeau a tool to the pile.

+1. And Ford is making noise like he has some personal authority with regard to international commerce and energy products.

I do think that Ford has a tendency to forget his place. Though, I think in this case, I think it was Trudeau who had said we should work towards a united front, and I think in Ford's eyes, that means protecting his own border between Ontario.

I hope the once every 4 years troll took his post election profits. Just checked finance for the first time since then because it jumped out at me.
The Federal Reserve cut its key interest rate for a third-straight meeting and penciled in two more rate cuts for 2025. The Fed meeting reveal was pretty much exactly what Wall Street expected, yet the S&P 500 turned sharply lower in Wednesday afternoon stock market action.
The Fed projections would see the federal funds rate cut to just below 4% next year, implying some modest additional relief from high rates for borrowers. However, markets continued to slide as Fed Chairman Jerome Powell spoke.
Most of what Powell said should have been soothing to markets, but one line stood out. Powell said that "policy uncertainty" relating to President-elect Trump's plans for tax cuts, tariffs and an immigration crackdown, provides another reason for the Fed to move slowly in further cutting rates.
Ten Fed officials estimated two interest rate cuts next year, fewer than four seen in September, as officials marked up their projections for core inflation and economic growth next year, while lowering their forecast for the unemployment rate in 2025.

Investors like stability and predictability. Very soon the markets will have neither. Tariffs/trade war? Deportations/labor disruptions? Who knows? With trump at the helm one must expect the worst.

According to authorities, officers with Customs and Border Protection were conducting an inspection on a semi truck leaving Michigan that was supposed to have 25 pallets of aluminum cans, but actually only had four pallets.
Officials said the pallets were stacked against the rear gate with suitcases, luggage and cardboard boxes placed between and behind the pallets.
Officials said the trailer had 13 cardboard boxes, five suitcases and four bags, which contained bricks of cocaine. In total, authorities reportedly seized 397 bricks of cocaine that had a combined weight of 483.79 kilograms.

Doesn't really say where it was coming from, does it? All it says it was found leaving Michigan. Do they think they were trying to head towards Canada? And if so, that's another knock on Trump.

It says it was leaving Michigan via the Blue Water Bridge, so the only place it could be going was Canada.

This. It's the way between Port Huron, MI and Sarnia, Ontario.

Ok, I'm not too familiar with that port of entry. But that being the case, I think the timing is interesting that this would happen at a time when Trump is berating Canada for a drug problem that doesn't exist, when it's in fact the other way around with drugs coming into Canada via the U.S. You gotta love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.
