Maybe I should pick up Gothic 2? I haven't seriously played any of the Gothics but when I tried Gothic1 for a few minutes it didn't hook me. (lame I know)

Perhaps I should pick up 2 since it is bargin bin right now and I have yet to talk to anyone that didn't fall in love with it.

I've stated this is the past, but the mod community at Co8 are doing a pretty good job at patching/modding The Temple of Elemental Evil as listed here:

http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1565

I believe when it's completely done, this mod will make the game worth playing. As it is now, I hear the game is now quite playable with the present version of this mod (1.5).

They're still working on that? That's pretty darned impressive. I've decided if I see ToEE on sale for $10 I'm going to pick it up again because DESPITE the bugs and everything I did have fun with it.

The only texture mod I'm aware of actually makes the game look worse to my eyes. It basically adds high poly models yes, but does so at the cost of some cool details. I usually love texture packs, such as the MW ones, but I haven't found any for this game I like. Off to rpgdot, but if you see this I would love it if you linked to the textures you like.

Edit, is this it? I'm guessing so, because it looks like the only texture pack they have. If so I don't know if I see any improvement. But judge for yourself on the linked page, or here is one sample:

I agree with this. I examined several texture comparisons and found that the originals looked better than the mod.

Feedback on the texture pack is mixed, about 50-50 pro & contra.
The sample screens only show the new world. According to the author the difference to the original is bigger in the valley of mines.

I´m not aware of any significant mods for G2. There´s one big and reportedly very good mod for Gothic, though. Diccuric is 8 hours long, has German voice acting and optional English subtitles. It was reviewed in a German print mag and bundled with the Russian Gothic rerelease.

All the small things to increase Gothic´s visuals are definitely worth the effort. They make the game faster and more beautiful.

Battlecruiser Millenium was released for free yesterday. Maybe that'll snap you out of it.

If you don't mind crappy graphics, old interface systems, and sci-fi settings, Sentinel Worlds I and the two Buck Rogers games were decent multi-character RPG's back from the early 90's. I really enjoyed them when they came out, and it seems that the Underdogs still think that they're pretty good.

You'll hate it.
