I think passing on a chance to win it is a mistake. Especially when had they gone for it and failed they still would have been a great story. They had nothing to lose.

I don't know if any of you watched the Oklahoma State vs Colorado game (0-52), but if any of you did - could someone explain to me: Why didn't OSU take the field goal at the end of the game in order to avoid the shutout. It was almost like they were playing as if a 'TD, on-side kick, Hail-Mary' could keep the game alive or something - where really, a FG was their obvious one shot to keep the game from being a shutout. I really don't understand why they went for a TD at the end of the game instead of the more obvious FG points.

Utah mercifully closed the season out with a win to avoid the school’s longest losing streak ever. While the offense was still atrocious, they were helped by two pick-6’s by the defense (which is now a record 20 straight years with at least one). Guess they figured they had to simply go win it on their own today. Glad to see the team still go out and fight and not simply roll over and die (like Ok St…sheesh).
This team needs to a massive overhaul in the offseason, and I’m hoping they can figure out how to play the portal game well. If not, it could be another long season next year. Bigger question is whether Coach Whit stays or goes. He has earned the right to go whenever he wants, and I can’t imagine him wanting to leave on such a down note. Lots of things to be decided…
Fun fact: Utah’s fifth string QB (Luke Bottari) is now 2-0 as a starter in his career. He beat CU last year and now UCF this year. The fact that we were forced to start our 5th string QB (due to the first four guys being injured) for a second year in a row is a whole ‘nother story.

I don’t think they got the QB with Howard that they thought they were getting.
Congrats to Michigan though.

I had no doubt that Indiana would win tonight, but damn that's a tough one for Purdue. Indiana finished only one point shy of scoring as many points as they allowed Purdue total yards. I guess this is what happens when a team wants to make a statement for the CFP committee to end their schedule...

After yesterday, I would say it would be advisable for them to pass a rule with a harsh penalty for visiting teams trying to plant their flags on the field after winning. (My own alma mater was guilty of this yesterday and it's not a good look. Pretty classless.)

Classless to plant your flag on another team's field, and classless to have your fans spitting on the other team as they take the field. Michigan and OSU both need to take action.
Did you see the Virginia Tech kicker 'trying to warm up' during the Syracuse marching band's halftime performance? The guy was asked by Syracuse staff to leave the field multiple times and just kept being a jerk.

So, Iowa State against ASU for the B12 title. Just like everyone predicted!
Either of those teams (and any team out of the B12 this year, really) is going to get absolutely pasted in the playoff

I remember this happening on occasion, but never as many times as happened yesterday. Seems like every single team that won a rivalry game did some sort of “flag planting” that escalated into a fight. A rather ridiculous look for college football, tbh.

Police deploying pepper spray on the field. Lol.
That was UMs superbowl so I'm glad for the suprise win but "planting the flag" and "defending our house" are both stupid.

In a sport as macho and violent as football why wouldn’t teams do stupid things? Schools, and players if they can be identified should be punished. Or hold the coaches accountable.

There is a better than average chance that a team new to the league wins each of the P4 conferences: Oregon on the B10, Texas in the SEC, ASU in the B12, and SMU in the ACC.
Realignment is weird.

Speaking as an OSU fan, the only way Ryan Day has a job next year is if he somehow wins the national championship. Losing to ichigan 4 years in a row is inexcusable.

Eh, both teams are well coached, and most of the teams who will make the first round are pretty flawed. ASU in particular, with a healthy qb only had 1 loss and is probably undervalued.
However, I do think the Big12 was the worst of the power conferences this year and that the schedule wasn't even as tough as the Pac12 the past few years.
As to Day - I think OSU had better be 100% sure they get someone better if they fire him. He can win a championship there, and stay in contention every year, and does a really good job managing the program. If they fire him, there's a 60%+ chance they are worse off in less than 3 years.

Exactly. Remember a few years ago when many Michigan were fans trying to get Harbaugh fired because he couldn't beat Ohio State? How did that work out?

Going into the game, I fully expected Michigan to get pasted. For Michigan to pull the upset, I figured we'd need three things. First, Big Game Donovan Edwards would have to return with a couple of big TD runs (didn't happen - in fact, he was out with injury the entire second half). Second, the Michigan D would have to be lights out (did happen!). Third, Day would have to continue having Michigan brain and choking (happened big time!). Day is so obsessed with "out-toughing" Michigan that he doesn't play his game. Their OL was a weak spot due to injury, so their game plan was to run inside against the strength of Michigan's defense? If he just plays Michigan like it were any other team they would have won handily. Dumb game plan from the head coach with a $20M NIL roster leads to the 4th loss in a row against the worst Michigan team (non-COVID version) in a decade.
The Michigan joke now is to give Day a lifetime contract, but I actually want him to get canned. They've had an unbelievable run of coaching since Cooper was fired with Tressel, Meyer, and Day (ignoring the Fickell year), and I don't know that they'd get so lucky again. Especially if they fire him after the playoffs, recruiting would suffer, players would transfer, and it could actually take OSU a bit to recover even if they got another home run hire.
Regarding the flag planting, I'd be happy to see that "tradition" stop. It's silly - although it can be funny trying to watch players plant a flag in turf. But that fight is on OSU. They were mostly off the field when the planting was done and had to come back to start something. Michigan didn't rush to fight Texas when they planted their flag in Ann Arbor earlier this year, and OSU didn't try to fight Michigan in 2022 when it happened. Again, I don't like the flag planting at all, but until Saturday it was pretty much accepted.
I also saw someone on BlueSky post that if you're from a place named Columbus, you don't get to complain about someone coming in, claiming your territory, and planting their flag without your permission.

One other huge factor in the game which isn't really being mentioned - Ohio St's OL issues vs. the overwhelming strength of Michigan all year, the DL. Michigan's greatest strength against Ohio State's most beleaguered unit was a deciding advantage which other teams, including Penn St. were unable to really take advantage of like Michigan did.
20m bought a lot of depth, but it wasn't enough against Michigan.

I generally don't care about CFB awards including the "vaunted" Heisman trophy. But I will say this, if Colorado's Travis Hunter doesn't win the Heisman this year, it's completely ridiculous. Elite as a defensive back and at the very least very good as a receiver. If that's not the best player in football, than I don't want this award to continue to exist.
(And, it kills me Ashton Jeanty won't/shouldn't win it because he had an amazing year. I followed his rushing numbers all year and marvelled at them.)

I still have Jeanty at the top of my list - anyone who breaks Barry Sanders' records... but I'm ok with Hunter - tho Jeanty ran for almost 200 yards and 3 td's vs the #1 team in the country on the road. After the conference championship game, Boise will have played 3 games against teams who are better than anyone Colorado played (maybe even 4 - WSU was 8-1 before they collapsed at the end of the season, with the only loss at Boise).

If Jeanty breaks Sanders' record, he'd be my vote (needs 341 yards). If not, I'd probably go with Hunter. Would be fine with either, honestly.
The crazier thing about Sanders' record is that he did it in only 11 games. That's completely insane.

Yeah. I was at UCLA at the time, and it looked like it was Troy Aikman's Heisman to lose, but then Sanders did what he did, and it was arguably the greatest single season performance by any player ever.

When I think of Sanders it makes me think about how the Friday after Thanksgiving used to belong to the Oklahoma vs Nebraska game.
