The market tried to pretend Trump would be restrained and not unleash the leopards to eat America’s face. Instead, they’d get tax cut cake and ice cream. We were warned in three elections.

I believe he's talking to his base, trying to reassure them that everything is fine. His lack of sincerity goes without saying, of course.

It's a great time to BUY! There is more short selling to do by insiders before I announce the next round of tariffs, DOGE layoffs, and cuts to funding are made public. When the GOP are done publicly traded businesses will be so lean with efficiency, you might call them starving.
Also, as someone who sells covered calls, the positions I am in are dead. There is very little speculation going on (which is an unreliable income source for me). People are offering very little for calls and that's at prices 20% or more off their high. I wonder what will happen by the 17th before Easter when the 3rd Friday hit. I'm not smart enough to know if that's a broader sentiment nor what it means if it is. One thing is probable, though, after the market closes on the 17th there will be some sort big announcement from the GOP administration and Chaos will ensue.

Yeah, especially when it going down hurts me personally so mush, as with anyone in my age range with no pension but rather lived for their future with IRAs and 401Ks. My assumption is the younger have a longer horizon for their money and live through these things while older people have mostly moved to short term means of drawing down their life savings. Though I suppose in 2008, people of the age before my had to cope, and did people in 2000, etc...

Re: Trumponomics - Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Love Tariffs
China's finance ministry has announced an 84% tariff on goods imported from the US as it retaliates against new levies imposed by the White House.
The hike in tariffs, from 34%, came as US President Donald Trump's 104% tariff on Chinese goods came into force.
Beijing says the new charges will take effect from Thursday.
China has called for the world to unite against Trump's tariffs as the country's exporters reel from the crippling new levies.
"Global unity can triumph over trade tyranny," declared an editorial in the state-run newspaper China Daily, noting Beijing's collaborations with Japan, South Korea and other Asian economies.
A separate piece called for the European Union to work with it to "uphold free trade and multilateralism".
Remember, Congress could stop this at any time, but they aren't.

President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on the full effect of his new tariffs for at least some countries.
Trump also said that he was raising the tariffs imposed on imports from China to 125% “effective immediately” due to the “lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets.”

Blinked or manipulated? Also roaring is relative. It's taking back less than 1/3 of what it's lost by my glance. (Though it may still rip higher)

It's fun trying to decipher American economic policy from his social media blatherings. On the one hand, he announced a 90 day pause (whatever that means) but also a 10% tariff across the board, all effective immediately. So all imports are still going to be at least 10+% more expensive, correct?

It's pretty obvious that whether the "90 day pause fake news" on Monday was intentional or not, the administration definitely noticed how it moved markets and whipped it out today to stop the bleeding.

One thing to go with these tariffs is that they probably aren't as much about trade deficits and re-onshoring manufacturing as they are about the attempt to get the rest of the world to bend the knee and kiss Trump's a**, much like the Oval Office meeting w/Zelensky.
The only thing we are actually investing in building right now is Concentration Camps.

Yeah, I noticed at some point last week I think that the Bluesky embeds weren't working anymore, but I wasn't sure.
This has to be a proof-of-concept experiment to see if someone in the administration can trick Trump into manipulating the markets for short-term gain. I don't believe his smart enough, but enjoys thinking he has this much power (which he apparently does).
The idea that a single person can have that much impact on our national and global economy just by making idiotic EOs seemingly at the drop of a hat should be sending Congress into immediate action to stop it. I mean, unless of course they're in on the scheme and making tons of money on both ends of the manipulation. /Drazzil

There's a bill that would end the "economic emergency" Trump declared in order to grant himself tariff power. (It actually does work this way.)
Even if Trump vetoed, there would probably be enough GOP defections to override the veto and end the "emergency." And this is why GOP leadership in Congress will not allow the bill to come to a vote.
